Four years ago Archbishop Pius Ncube of the Roman Catholic Church in Bulawayo was a household name. He told a British newspaper on 1 July 2007: “I think it is justified for Britain to raid Zimbabwe and remove Mugabe….We should do it ourselves but there’s too much fear. I’m ready to lead the people, guns blazing, but the people are not ready.” Two weeks later he was exposed in a sex scandal that has removed him completely from the public scene.
