Applications for passports will be processed at district level before the end of this year if the district offices are connected by satellite link, the deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ziyambi Ziyambi said on Wednesday.
He was responding to a question by Masvingo legislator Monica Chigudu why applications for passports were only processed at provincial level when birth certificates and national identity cards were processed at district level.
Q & A
APPLICATIONS FOR PASSPORTS
MRS. CHIGUDU asked the Minister of Home Affairs to explain why applications for passports are only processed at provincial offices when acquisition of birth certificates and national identity cards had been decentralised to the district level.
THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF HOME AFFAIRS (MR. ZIYAMBI): We are in the process of decentralising passport applications to district levels. What we are going to do in the not too distant future is to distribute the application forms to district level and we are hoping that by year end, if all our district offices are connected to our satellite link, we will be able to process the applications for passports at district level. Thank you.
