Only two cases of coronavirus since third phase of lockdown

Two Zimbabweans have so far tested positive of the coronavirus since 4 May when the country entered into its third phase of the national lockdown.

Zimbabwe declared a three-week national lockdown from 30 March and extended it by two weeks when it expired on 19 April.

It extended the lockdown by another two weeks to 17 May but under relaxed conditions which allowed some commercial activities while people were required to wear face masks whenever they left their homes.

The country has so far recorded 36 cases but nine people have recovered and four have died.

It has tested 21 536 people.

The latest case was from Chegutu and tested positive during a screening test at his workplace.

The world had 4.2 million cases by mid-morning today of which 284 102 have died and 2.4 million are active.

Countries with the highest deaths are the United States of America with 80 787, followed by the United Kingdom with 31 855 and Italy with 30 560.
