NSSA starts construction of $6.5m shopping mall in Chipinge, 10 years later

The National Social Security Authority (NSSA) has commenced construction of a $6.5 million shopping mall in Chipinge, Manicaland province, a decade later than the originally planned after hyperinflation rendered the local currency worthless and planning almost impossible.

The mall is expected to accommodate the growing business in the district and generate employment for locals, following similar projects in Gwanda, Bindura and a hotel in Beitbridge.

NSSA general manager James Matiza said yesterday that the mall was initially supposed to be constructed in 2005 but the prevailing hyperinflation at the time had affected the development timetables set for capital projects.

The mall is expected to house among others offices, a supermarket, hardware shop, doctors’ surgeries, two banks, hair salons and food outlets.

Construction of the double storey structure is expected to be completed in 15 months, NSSA said.-The Source
