NSSA allocated 700 stands in Pumula

The National Social Security Authority (NSSA) has been allocated 700 stands in Bulawayo’s Pumula South suburb but will be required to hand over the completed houses to the Bulawayo City Council for allocation.

The national pension body had applied for 1 000 stands but was only allocated 700 which the council said should not be developed “piecemeal”.

A number of private developers including the country’s largest building society, CABS, are building houses in the same suburb.

The council, which is already at loggerheads with the government over the allocation of stands and houses under Operation Hlalani Kuhle in Cowdray Park, said it was going to ask NSSA to surrender houses once they had been completed. The council was going to allocate the houses because its procedures on allocation of houses were not strictly being adhered to.

The town clerk Moffat Ndlovu said stands and houses must be allocated to those on the council’s waiting list in order of the date of registration

The council recently complained that some people who were registered only last year were being allocated houses or stands ahead of those who registered in the 1980s.
