New Zim ambassador says SA is “all-weather friend”

Zimbabwe’s new ambassador to South Africa Phekezela Mphoko today praised South Africa as an “all-weather friend” when he presented his credentials to President Jacob Zuma in Pretoria. Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai had opposed Mphoko’s appointment together with that of other diplomats appointed by President Robert Mugabe after the formation of the inclusive government saying he had not been consulted. “Your country, South Africa, has proved to be an all-weather friend to Zimbabwe and has refused to support the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe, and has instead demanded their immediate removal,” Mphoko said.
