New twist in Mujuru inheritance case

The Mujuru family has hogged the limelight for the past to nine months but for very different reasons. Joice Mujuru has been “persecuted” for trying to take over from Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front leader Robert Mugabe. Not only was she publicly humiliated by his wife Grace on her nationwide tour, but Mujuru was stripped of all political power before being expelled from the party last week. Ironically, during the same period, the distribution of the estate of her husband, who died in a mysterious fire nearly four years ago, came up, painting her as a greedy woman who wants to deprive Mujuru’s other children- not hers- from their dues. The figure of Mujuru’s children has even been put at 90 when officially there are supposed to be only 12, five of them Joice’s. Now General Mujuru, who has variously been described as a millionaire and even at times a billionaire, seems to be owing quite a lot by local standards. According to The Chronicle, Stern Mufara, the executor of Gen Mujuru’s estate, says one of his companies, Limpopo Mining Resources, owes creditors $21 million. And, it appears, someone has been fiddling with income from Mujuru’s properties since his death. Mufara said before his death, Mujuru’s properties were managed by his company called Kalmic Investments. “It has come to our attention that Kalmic is no longer managing the assets. The company called Ruzirani Investments (Pvt) Ltd is now collecting rentals. It started managing the property after the death of Gen Mujuru,” Mufara said.
