Chamisa is said to have postponed the congress and reportedly has the backing of senior Alliance members.
Chamisa was given a one-year term when he assumed office following the death of Morgan Tsvangirai in February this year.
Political analysts have said the postponement is an indication that all is not well within the country’s main opposition which they accuse of becoming increasingly undemocratic.
Chamisa has been accused of displaying dictatorial tendencies but has denied being a dictator.
In the letter dated today, Mwonzora says that the suggestion that Chamisa has moved the dates of the congress cannot be true as this is not in line with the party’s guiding manual.
Mwonzora dismissed the letter as fake saying: “Some political criminals have resorted to forg(g)ing signatures of MDC officials. They have also been creating fake tweets. I have not issue(d) any statement regarding the party’s elective Congress at all. The letter circulating on social media is fake! And CHEAP!”
