Mwonzora asks what Mutinhiri is up to?

Movement for Democratic Change-Tsvangirai secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora has asked what the new leader of the National Patriotic Front Ambrose Mutinhiri is up to.

“What's really up Ambrose Mutinhiri's sleeve? Another political party? We have too many already!” he tweeted.

Zimbabwe is reported to have at least 75 parties that say they will be contesting the coming elections due to be held in July or August.

Two have, however, gone to court to press Mnangagwa to postpone the elections until the Political Parties Finance Act is amended so that each party can be given government funding to campaign.

Under the present law only a party that wins at least 5 percent of the vote is entitled to funding.

Mwonzora’s comment comes when his own party faces another split, though the person at the centre of the controversy, Thokozani Khupe, has said she is not quitting the party.

Party leader Nelson Chamisa was given seven days to get Khupe, organising secretary Abednigo Bhebhe and national chairman Lovemore Moyo back into the fold or face expulsion.

 Chamisa, however, today seemed to be trying to patch things up.

“VP Khupe is more than a VP; she’s a Cde, a sister and a friend to our MDC-T family. We’ve hoped, fought and cried together in pursuit of freedom.& a better Zimbabwe. What binds us together is far greater than the little that seeks to set us apart,” he tweeted.
