Mutodi arrested for another facebook post

Energy Mutodi was arrested yesterday for another facebook post this time for claiming that Defence Minister Sydney Sekeramayi and Health Minister David Parirenyatwa poisoned Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa just before the Gwanda Youth rally on 12 August.

He is already facing charges for another post in which he warned President Robert Mugabe to be careful about choosing a successor as this could result in a military coup.

He was granted $100 bail on the first charge after spending almost two weeks in custody.

The piece about the alleged poisoning was posted on 25 August.

Sekeramayi and Parirenyatwa are both medical doctors.

In another post yesterday Mutodi wrote:  “I can confirm that I have been called by the police Law & Order section for questioning over allegations that Defence Minister Sydney Sekeramayi and Health Minister David Parirenyatwa poisoned Vice President Mnangagwa.

“While I was expecting the government of Zimbabwe to institute a commission of enquiry into the poison case, it is me who actually is now being charged under section 41 of the Criminal Law code: Publishing false information that is prejudicial to the state.

“It's hard to think how do they know the information is false if the accused persons have not been arrested and charged with the assault.”

Police and his lawyer have both confirmed Mutodi’s arrest.

Mutodi’s critics have described his posts as attention-seeking publicity stunts.
