ZANU-PF secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa and now confirmed Manicaland boss after his faction swept all the seats in the provincial elections held recently is once again shooting off his mouth.
He says those calling for the presidency, especially vice-President Joshua Nkomo, to retire are misguided and ambitious people clamouring for unwarranted changes.
“Nkomo does not rule the party alone but with us all. As long as we hold elections and people like him, what’s wrong with that? Muzorewa and Dumbutshena are also old but nobody talks about them. In our tradition chiefs rule until they die,” he was quoted by the national news agency Ziana as saying.
While ZANU-PF leaders are elected and no one should quarrel with that, what should raise eyebrows is Mutasa’s bringing in of chiefs. Chiefs are not elected? They are traditional leaders and they die in office?
Was Mutasa trying to imply that ZANU-PF leaders should also die in office?
One can only hope that Mutasa, who once said he will record all his interviews with the media because he had been misquoted so often, was this time not misquoted.
