Mugabe’s nephew says forget any doubts you may have about Chamisa, just vote for him to remove the military

Former President Robert Mugabe’s nephew, Patrick Zhuwao has called on Zimbabweans to forget any doubts that they might have about Movement for Democratic Change Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa and vote for him because these can never be bigger than the need to remove violence and the use of military from the country’s politics.

Zhuwao, one of the G40 members who went into exile after the military intervention of November last year, said he fully supported the National Patriotic Front that was formed to reverse the military “coup”.

“As Patrick Zhuwao, I support our NPF parliamentary and council candidates. Their participation in the 2018 elections gives all political orphans of the military takeover of ZANU PF a home. These political orphans will now be represented in parliament and in councils,” he said.

“I also support Nelson Chamisa as the presidential candidate for the 2018 elections. My support for Nelson Chamisa aims to focus all progressive forces towards democratically removing the coup government and restoring legitimacy and constitutionalism.

“You may have doubts and misgiving about Nelson Chamisa but they can never be bigger than the need to remove violence and the use of the military from our politics. I am urging ALL of us to support Nelson Chamisa for president in the 30 July 2018 election.”

Chamisa is one of 23 candidates vying for the country’s top post and will be contesting against NPF leader Ambrose Mutinhiri who refused to step down to give way to Chamisa.

It remains unclear whether the NPF candidates contesting the elections are loyal to Mutinhiri or to the Grace Mugabe-sponsored faction led by Eunice Sandi Moyo.

It is not clear how this tacit support from Mugabe will impact on Chamisa’s prospects as it gives the impression that he is prepared to take anyone to bed as long as he wins the presidential race.

Chamisa has publicly denied any association with Mugabe but the persistence of Zhuwao and Jonathan Moyo that they are fully behind him, just to get rid of the #junta, might backfire on him.
