Mugabe warns Mutasa against taking party issues to court

Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front president Robert Mugabe has warned his former lieutenant Didymus Mutasa not to take party issues to court because the issues cannot be resolved outside the party constitution. Mutasa has threatened to take the party to court over the way it handled last year’s congress which saw him and other top lieutenants, including party deputy president Joice Mujuru, being sidelined and reduced to ordinary party members. Party spokesman Simon Khaya Moyo told the media after yesterday’s politburo meeting that Mugabe had told them that they must be familiar with the party constitution. “..the emphasis of that was that no one is above the party, the party is supreme and no one should consider himself or herself as above the party. The party is supreme because it has its own principles.  It has its own rules and practices which are not subject to High Court as some people falsely believe and that if you are truly a party cadre there are structures within the party that you must use in order to get your concerns addressed, but not through the High Court or whatever legal institution outside the party,” Moyo was quoted by The Herald as saying.
