President Robert Mugabe today signed Zimbabwe’s new constitution into law, clearing the path for elections. “This is a happening of joy, great joy indeed,” Mugabe said at the signing ceremony. His main rival Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said: “As Zimbabweans we are proud that we are setting on a journey that is based on a new governance system.” The parties are still to agree on the date for the elections.
