Mugabe says Mnangagwa was not poisoned but quips “anga ainda murume uyu”

President Robert Mugabe today said Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa who had to hastily leave a youth rally in Gwanda on 12 August after a severe bout of vomiting and diarrhea was not poisoned but his doctors are still to establish what caused his illness.

Mugabe told a youth rally in Gweru, the Midlands capital and Mnangagwa’s stronghold, that his doctor came to Zimbabwe to explain what happened to Mnangagwa.

The doctor said there were no traces of poison in his blood but what surprised everyone  was how Mnangagwa vomited and the diarrhea.

“They fought a battle to save him. They gave him four drips in succession. Anga ainda murume uyu,” Mugabe quipped.

Mugabe said Mnangagwa  was now fit again but his doctor said he will keep looking into what may have caused his sickness  but it was not food poisoning.

He said doctors told Mnangagwa to cut all meat and only vegetables, especially broccoli.

“Nyama akanzi rega kubata, ye mombe, yose nyama chero hove, hameno zvako, mudzimai wako ndiye achaona,” Mugabe said.

Singer Energy Mutodi was arrested this week and is now out on bail after naming Defence Minister Sydney Sekeramayi and Health Minister David Parirenyatwa, both medical doctors, for allegedly poisoning Mnangagwa.

Mugabe said the two were falsely being accused by some blabbermouth.

Mutodi was remanded to 14 September on $200 bail.
