President Robert Mugabe arrived in Rome today to attend the inaugural mass for Pope Francis in St Peter’s Square. Mugabe is banned from travelling to Europe under the EU sanctions but the ban does not apply to visiting Vatican City, a sovereign state, or to trips for “religious obligations”. Mugabe is a catholic.
