That was what the Daily News led with when the United States approved the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act which imposed sanctions on President Robert Mugabe and his lieutenants in the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front.
Although the act was ostensibly aimed at Mugabe and his cronies, the act also imposed financial sanctions on the country as it barred organisations like the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the African Development Bank from giving loans to Zimbabwe without the approval of the United States president.
