Mugabe could have forgiven Mujuru if she had apologised says Muchinguri

Oppah Muchinguri, one of the architects of former Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s downfall, says Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front leader Robert Mugabe could have forgiven Mujuru and allowed her to retain her post if she had apologised. She told New Zimbabwe.Com: “The President has indicated that he is ready to reconcile and forgive. You can imagine that he (Mugabe) forgave Ian Smith; he could as well forgive a black person. Some people who were used for the purposes of factionalism have apologised and are now forgiven.  Things could have worked much more differently for Mujuru if she had swallowed her pride and apologised for her misdeeds, but she did not.”  Mujuru was asked by Mugabe’s wife, Grace, to apologise for plotting to oust her husband but she did not. Instead, she went on to lambaste Grace but at the same time claimed to be loyal to ZANU-PF and Mugabe. Mujuru did not attend the party congress claiming she was afraid for her life and was replaced by her archrival Emmerson Mnangagwa. The National Constitutional Assembly said it would challenge Mugabe’s appointment of Mnangagwa claiming that it is unconstitutional. Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko were sworn-in as vice-presidents yesterday. Mujuru was booted out together with eight government ministers.
