President Robert Mugabe has called an emergency politburo meeting of his Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front tomorrow morning.
Party chairman Simon Khaya Moyo, who announced the meeting, did not say what it would be about but said every member should attend.
The politburo is the highest policy making body of ZANU-PF.
The party and government have been under serious pressure for failing to resuscitate the economy which is sliding into deflation despite their much heralded economic blueprint, the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZimAsset).
The situation has been worsened by the uncovering of rampant corruption at several state enterprises where chief executives were earning exorbitant salaries or milking the enterprises of much needed cash through dubious schemes.
An insurance scam was exposed at Air Zimbabwe while exorbitant salaries were paid to chief executives of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, Premier Services Medical Aid Society and Harare City Council.
While the public was expecting the government to take serious action against corruption, it was shocked to hear Vice-President Joice Mujuru claim at the weekend that the exposures of corruption were the work of those bent on destroying ZANU-PF.
Mujuru gave the impression that this was the view of the presidency, which comprises, Mugabe, herself and Simon Khaya Moyo.
Mugabe might want to use tomorrow’s meeting to set the record straight.
