Mugabe accepts Mnangagwa as the winner says “we can’t deny it”

Former President Robert Mugabe, who vowed on the eve of the elections that he would never vote for his tormentors and would vote for opposition leader Nelson Chamisa instead, today accepted that Emmerson Mnangagwa was the winner of the 30 July elections.

Mnangagwa beat Chamisa but Chamisa rejected the result and went to court but lost the case.

According to the French news agency, AFP, Mugabe said at the wake of his mother-in-law Idah Marufu: “Mnangagwa is the winner. Things have been righted. We can’t deny it.”

Mugabe could not attend Mnangagwa’s inauguration on 26 August because of poor health but he sent his daughter Bona and her husband Simba Chikore instead.

His wife, Grace was in Singapore where he had gone for treatment.

Mnangagwa is reported to have chartered a plane for her to come and attend her mother’s funeral.
