Msika : forgotten or a mistake

The Senior Minster for Local Government, Rural and Urban Development, Joseph Msika, his deputy Swithun Mombeshora who is in fact a fully-fledged Minister, and the eight provincial governors whose office has now become dubious because of the presence of resident ministers, seem to have been overlooked, or may be getting less than the rest of their counterparts if the figures given in the current estimates are correct.

Msika’s salary, according to the figures remains at $60 00 a year, the same as last year while that of other senior minsters, Bernard Chidzero and Didymus Mutasa, now stands at $65 400 from last year’s $60 000.

Mombeshora’s is also static at $52 944 while that of his counterpart, Fay Chung, is a comfortable $57 708 up from last year’s $52 944.

The eight governors are static at $368 352 which would mean each getting $46 088. Governors normally earn more than deputy ministers but less than cabinet ministers. Last year deputy ministers were getting $42 588 but this has been increased to $46 416.

The only other person whose salary has remained static is the president whose annual income and allowances remains at $135 100. The two vice-Presidents’ salaries went up by more than $10 000 from last year’s $140 016 to $152 616.

If the salaries of Msika, Mombeshora and the governors listed in the current estimates are a mistake this will push up the overall budget by an estimated $40 000 or $50 000.
