The wife of Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko is reported to have been robbed of cash and goods worth more than R1 million by bogus policemen in Johannesburg at the weekend.
A report in the Star newspaper, which was confirmed by the police, says Laurinda Mphoko and her daughter, who was not named, were robbed of “a ruby-and-diamond ring, bangles, $1 000, a Cartier watch and Samsung Galaxy phone”.
The goods were valued at more than R1 million.
The report said four men driving a white car stopped the vehicle in which Mphoko and four others were driving, flashed what looked like a police badge and then robbed Mphoko and her daughter who is said to be a doctor.
Vice-President Mphoko was Zimbabwe’s ambassador to South Africa from 2011 to May last year.
