Mphoko pleads with ZANU-PF structures to readmit Mutezo

Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko has pleaded with Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front structures in Manicaland to readmit former Deputy Energy Minister Munacho Mutezo who is still the ruling party’s Member of Parliament for Chimanimani. Describing Mutezo as a prodigal son who was truly remorseful and deserved a second chance, Mphoko said: “I am impressed by Mutezo’s attitude. He has shown a good spirit. He has shown that being angry should be temporal. I really commend him. Those who erred must be given an opportunity to make amends,” Mphoko was quoted by Newsday as saying. Mutezo was one of the first ministers linked to former Vice-President Joice Mujuru to be fired together with his boss Dzikamai Mavhaire just after the ZANU-PF December congress. More dismissals were to follow with 17 ministers losing their jobs. Mutezo, however, remains a member of the party though he has been booed at some party functions. Only two legislators, Temba Mliswa and Didymus Mutasa, have been expelled from the party. Their seats will be filled at the 10 June by-elections.
