ZANU-PF politburo member Jonathan Moyo today raised the controversial issue of Gukurahundi in which an estimated 20 000 people, mostly Ndebele, were killed in the 1980s as a dark point in history and lamented that the government’s reaction had been “outrageously disproportionate” to the threat. The government has not compensated affected families for the massacres which President Robert Mugabe described as “a moment of madness”.
