More Zimbabwe flowers and horticulture to the Netherlands

Netherlands flag carrier, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM), plans to increase the frequency of its cargo flights between Harare – Amsterdam to four by end of month, according to the country’s envoy.

Barbara van Hellemond said the move – which is anticipated to increase trade between Zimbabwe and the Netherlands – was going to see KLM transporting horticultural cargo between the two countries.

“@KLMCargo, now 4 times a week in Harare #Zimbabwe Let’s hope trade between the Netherlands and Zimbabwe will grow and @klm will fly daily between Harare and Amsterdam ?@NLinZimbabwe? ?@euinzim? ?@ZimTradeAlerts,” the Dutch envoy said at the weekend on her twitter handle.

The Dutch carrier discontinued direct passenger flights from Amsterdam to Harare in October 2014. KLM had resumed flights to Zimbabwe in 2012 after a 13-year absence.

Presently, trade between the two countries is heavily skewed in the Netherlands’ favour. Latest data from the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency shows that between January last year and March this year, exports to Netherlands totaled $3.67 million, while imports from that country were $24.56 million.-The Source
