More than 300, mostly pupils at boarding schools, recover from coronavirus

A total of 331 people, most of them pupils at boarding schools in Matebeleland South and Manicaland, recovered from coronavirus today but another 32 pupils in Matebeleland North tested positive.

The Ministry of Health did not give the exact number of pupils but 221 people recovered in Matebeleland South resulting in the number of active cases in the province dropping to 281 while 91 recovered from Manicaland which now has 174 active cases.

Schools hit by the pandemic were Sacred Heart and Embakwe Mission in Matebeleland South and St David’s Bonda in Manicaland.

There were 62 new cases today, 32 of them at a school which already had 12 cases.

Five people died raising the number of deaths to 1 565.

Active cases dropped to 1 119 with Harare now having the highest number at 371. Bulawayo has 138 cases.

More than 22 000 people were vaccinated today with 16 842 getting the first dose and 5 847 the second.

So far 370 676 have received the first dose while 63 263 have been fully vaccinated.
