More people have died of coronavirus in the United States than those with the virus in China

The coronavirus known as covid-19 started in China in December but by 7am, more people in the United States had died of the virus than those said to be positive in China.

Figures compiled by Worldometers.info, which says its data is trusted and used by the United Kingdom government, John Hopkins, New York Times and the British Broadcasting Corporation, among others, says 83 425 Americans had died of the coronavirus by 7 am this morning.

The US had 1.4 million cases and only 296 746 had recovered.

China had a total of 82 926 cases and a whopping 78 189 were said to have recovered. There were 4 633 deaths.

China has just dispatched a team of 12 doctors to help Zimbabwe curb the virus.

Zimbabwe has so far tested 23 927 people and 37 were positive. Twelve have since recovered and four have died.

The World Health Organisation, however, warned Zimbabwe not to be complacent because of the low number of people that are positive.

“Our recommendation at WHO is to continue intensifying surveillance. Let’s not be destructed by the numbers that are being confirmed or that are coming out negative,” WHO representative in Zimbabwe Alex Gasasira said.

“We know that this is a very infectious disease, so as long as we have anybody who is confirmed, we should maintain very high vigilance. The fact that we haven’t got much cases yet is not any reason for us to reduce vigilance,” he said.
