Mnangagwa to meet Ramaphosa over xenophobic attacks in South Africa

Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is in South Africa for the World Economic Forum is expected to meet South African President Cyril Ramaphosa over the xenophobic attacks on mainly Africans from Zimbabwe and Nigeria especially in Johannesburg.

The Ministry of Information said Mnangagwa will be meeting Ramaphosa in his capacity as chairman of the Southern African Development Community Organ for Politics, Defence and Security.

Mnangagwa assumed the post at last month’s summit in Dar es Salaam where SADC also declared 25 October as anti-sanctions day against Zimbabwe.

“We are closely following the situation in South Africa and are in regular contact with our South African counterparts. President ED Mnangagwa is in SA and as Chairman of the SADC Organ for Politics, Defence and Security, he will meet with President Cyri Ramaphosa,” the ministry said.

“We condemn in strong terms all forms of hate driven violence and applaud the South African Authorities for the swift way they have responded and arrested some of the suspects.”
