Mnangagwa says Zimbabwe is moving forward, whatever doom-sayers say

President Emmerson Mnangagwa today said Zimbabwe is clearly moving forward whatever doom-sayers might want to say.

Writing in his weekly Column in the Sunday Mail, the President said: “There should be little or no time for those given to magnifying little, passing challenges in the hope of dispiriting us.”

He listed some of the positive achievement made this week as:

1. The announcement of the country’s new diamond policy. He said this policy was aimed at Zimbabwe getting maximum value for its diamonds which would be a five-fold jump from what it is presently earning.
2. Anglo-Platinum announced the completion of its smelter at Unki which Mnangagwa will officially launch next week enabling the mining industry to move one more step further up the platinum value chain.
3. In mid-January next year, the President is scheduled to visit Russia at the invitation of President Putin. The Russians are players in the platinum mining industry and the visit is meant to ensure that the Darwendale Platinum Project finally takes off.
4. This week Mnangagwa will officially open the Lithium Carbonate Plant in Kwekwe. This comes hard on the heels of the launch of the Lithium Mining project in Goromonzi.
5. Works to dualise the Beitbridge-Chirundu Highway have also started. The construction units are on the ground. Zimbabwe is using its own resources and expertise to revamp the road infrastructure.
6. Work on the new Parliament Complex which is being financed by the Chinese government began about two weeks ago.
7. Another Chinese-funded project, the Hwange Power Station Units 7 and 8, which was launched in August, has now begun, with civil works already underway.

“All told, Zimbabwe is clearly moving forward, whatever doom-sayers may want to say,” Mnangagwa said.
