Mnangagwa says government is looking after Mugabe well – He is our revolutionary icon

President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday told Angolan President Joao Lourenco that his government will look after former president Robert Mugabe well and is determined to preserve his legacy.

Mnangagwa who travelled to Angola yesterday and returned in the evening was briefing the Angolan leader on the peaceful transition in Zimbabwe which led to Mugabe’s resignation and his rise to power.

“We had the transition peacefully and the former President is very safe. We will look after him well, care for him, he is our founding father of the nation,” Mnangagwa said.

“He is our revolutionary icon and we are determined to preserve his legacy.”

Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao, a member of the G40 faction of the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front that is being accused of fuelling the military takeover that brought in Mnangagwa, last week complained that Mnangagwa’s administration was not looking after Mugabe well.

“Kun’anga nokuvaporofita kwavakainda vakaudzwa kuti havasi kubata baba (Mugabe) zvakanaka. Vari kubatwa huyanga. Midzimu iri pasi haisi kufara,”Zhuwao  said.

Reports say ZANU-PF youths are planning a birthday bash for Mugabe who turns 94 next month.
