President Emmerson Mnangagwa today said the dualisation of the Beitbridge –Harare road is to be retendered because it has taken too long to take off.
The dualisation was awarded to a Chinese company, China Harbour Engineering Company and was to be financed by Austrian company Geiger International.
The $1 billion project was commissioned at Chaka Growth Point in Chirumhanzu in May last year but has not taken off up to now.
Bulawayo legislator Eddie Cross last month took Transport Minister Joram Gumbo to task last month saying he could not find Geiger anywhere as it appeared to be a company from a small village in Austria.
Gumbo has been promising the public that the project will kick off soon and at one time claimed that it would create 300 000 jobs.
The Beitbridge-Harare road is the busiest in the country and has also become the most hazardous.
