Mnangagwa outraged at police beating handcuffed man

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has expressed outrage at a video of police officers a security agent in plain clothes beating up a handcuffed man along Chiremba Road in Harare.

It is not clear what offence the man had committed but the video aired by Britain’s SkyNews showed the brutality that security forces are leashing on civilians in the crackdown that followed last week’s anti-government protests.

Mnangagwa ordered the arrest of those involved and also called on the public to report similar incidents.

“I was appalled by today’s @SkyNews report. That is not the Zimbabwean way. I have instructed that the individuals behind this be arrested and encourage all those impacted to contact the authorities and file an official complaint,” he tweeted.

Last week the military said it was not involved in violence and claimed that rogue elements wearing military uniform were committing the offences.
