Mnangagwa insists he was poisoned

Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa today hit back at his co-Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko “for subjective falsehoods and mischievous perceptions” saying he never said he was poisoned in Gwanda.

Mphoko yesterday accused Mnangagwa of lying that he was poisoned at the Gwanda youth rally in August and accused him of trying to undermine President Robert Mugabe as doctors had said that he was not poisoned.

Mnangagwa said "the doctors who attended to me ruled out food poisoning but confirmed that indeed poisoning had occurred and that investigations were still in progress".

He also said his commitment to national unity, peace and stability was undoubted and unquestionable.

"I have an impeccable history of unflinching loyalty to the party, and His Excellency the President, Comrade Robert Gabriel Mugabe and have never acted in a manner that undermines his authority or the stability of Zimbabwe."

Mnangagwa has been the subject of flak at recent ZANU-PF rallies but has kept his cool.

This is the first time he has responded to an attack on him.

His main adversary has, however, been the First Lady Grace Mugabe, so all eyes are watching how he will handle her.
