Mnangagwa grades road to Tsvangirai homestead to facilitate memorial

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dispatched two graders to clear the road linking Murambinda Growth Point and former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s homestead to facilitate the late Movement for Democratic Change leader’s memorial which will be held tomorrow.

According to the Herald online, the government will also provide food for more than 5 000 people that are expected to attend the memorial.

Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said Mnangagwa had done all this in the spirit of oneness.

Tsvangirai died on 14 February last year and was given a state-assisted funeral.

His family had asked that the memorial should be non-partisan with no one expected to put on party regalia.

The MDC, however, said the family could not dictate what should or should not be done as the party was Tsvangirai’s family.

The MDC also said it is going to hold a vigil in party regalia at Tsvangirai’s home tonight.

Mnangagwa, who acknowledged receiving an invitation to attend the memorial, has not yet indicated whether he will attend or not.

Mutsvangwa said Mnangagwa will respond to the invitation to attend the memorial “appropriately just as he did during the funeral wake”.

He was represented by Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front chairman Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri who has also represented him at key occasions attended by MDC leader Nelson Chamisa.
