President Emmerson Mnangagwa today fired his first government minister since assuming office in November.
He fired Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs Minister Webster Shamu with immediate effect but no reasons were given.
Shamu was, however, recently accused of interfering in the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front primary elections in Mashonaland West which saw Mnangagwa advisor Chris Mutsvangwa threatening to mobilise war veterans to de-campaign Mnangagwa.
Shamu was fired from President Robert Mugabe’s government in 2014 during the purge of supporters of former Vice-President Joice Mujuru.
He was re-appointed Minister of Information by Mugabe in October last year but served less than a month before being appointed Provincial Affairs Minister by Mnangagwa.
