Mnangagwa dissolves cabinet appoints only two acting ministers

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dissolved cabinet and appointed only two acting ministers, Patrick Chinamasa and Simbarashe Mumbengegwi.

Chinamasa who was fired as Finance Minister in October by then President Robert Mugabe has been appointed acting minister.

He is one of the leading contenders for that post as he led the discussions with international financial institutions which are key to re-engagement with the international community.

Mumbengegwi was also given back his foreign ministry portfolio in an acting capacity after he was sacked in the same reshuffle.

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda said Chinamasa and Mumbengegwi were appointed to allow for uninterrupted services in critical ministries.

Mnangagwa is reported to be putting together a new team.

It is still not clear whether he will appoint ministers outside his Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front but with elections due before August he has very little time to turn around the country’s economy which is key to his election which would give him his own mandate.

Mnangagwa is currently serving the remainder of Mugabe’s term.

The President has also summoned all permanent secretaries to Munhumutapa tomorrow.
