President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Godwin Matanga as the new police boss.
Matanga was appointed acting commissioner-general in December when Augustine Chihuri was sent on leave pending retirement.
He will have a tough time transforming the force as it had become one of the most corrupt in the region.
Police and the military also did not see eye-to-eye under Chihuri as they were said to be pro-G40 while the military was pro-Mnangagwa.
