Mnangagwa already in the hot seat as acting President

Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa assumed the hot seat yesterday, two days after being sworn-in, when he was appointed acting President for a month while President Robert Mugabe is on his annual leave. Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko were sworn-in on Friday but National Constitutional Assembly leader Lovemore Madhuku is challenging their appointment in court. Former Presidential Affairs Minister Didymus Mutasa has also appealed to South African President Jacob Zuma to nullify the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front congress where he and Vice-President Joice Mujuru were demoted to ordinary members. Mujuru has, however, congratulated Mnangagwa and Mphoko on their appointments. ZANU-PF has decided to forge ahead and has declared a ceasefire in all its political organs as some provinces wanted to punish those believed to have been against the present leadership.
