Mnangagwa ally said to have imported up to 83 vehicles duty free

Zimbabwe’s former Director of State Residences Douglas Tapfuma yesterday appeared in court on corruption charges for allegedly importing seven vehicles from South Africa without paying duty saying they were state vehicles but when they were for personal use.

The State, however, said he was being investigated for importing 76 more vehicles using the same method.

Tapfuma was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and is one of the three top government officials arrested by the anti-corruption body in the past week.

The other two are Tourism Minister Prisca Mupfumira and her Permanent Secretary Munesu Munodawafa.

Mupfumira is on remand while Munodawafa is still to appear in court.

Tapfuma imported the seven vehicles between April and August last year clearly slapping President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the face because while the President was proclaiming zero tolerance to corruption, it was happening right under his nose, in his office.

Tapfuma was remanded to 15 August.
