Ministry of Transport Permanent Secretary in court over Air Zimbabwe fraud

The Permanent Secretary for Transport Munesuishe Munodawafa yesterday appeared in court on corruption charges involving Air Zimbabwe but was not asked to plead.

He is being accused of ordering Air Zimbabwe to pay Navistar Insurance Brokers$305 000 for no reason. He is also accused of ordering the national airline to pay a friend Ben Dahwa, a finder’s fee of $10 200 a month.

He was remanded to 24 June on $1 000 bail.

Munodawafa was arrested on Tuesday.

Former Air Zimbabwe chief executive officer Peter Chikumba and company secretary Grace Pfumbidzayi were recently jailed for seven years for defrauding the airline.

They have both indicated that they will appeal but were denied bail pending the appeal.

Munodawafa is related to Pfumbidzayi.
