Only a few months after assuming office, Information Minister Chen Chimutengwende, fired the Posts and Telecommunications board. No reason was given.
Had Chimutengwende still been deputy minister of Information before the reshuffle, one would have understood the move. The excuse would have been that he was not happy with their performance.
But he had been Minister of Tourism and Environment, yet he did not even take time to study the situation unless he had been doing so in anticipation of the move.
Whispers say, the board was simply fired because the minister did not like it and seems not to like a number of things implemented by his predecessors. One can only hope this is not the case.
Boards should be appointed on merit and should be allowed to complete their terms of office. Too often, boards are changed with change of ministers and hardly last their term of office.
