A South African newspaper today said Zimbabwe’s state mining companies were involved in sanctions busting to receive diamond revenue from Marange. The mining companies, the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation and the Mineral Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe, are both under United States sanctions while rough diamonds from Marange cannot be legally exported because of the dispute between Zimbabwe and the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme.
