Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka was today forced to issue a statement that Tsvangirai is “alive, well and in good health”.
It was not clear how the rumour got around or how serious it was but Tamborinyoka said there was a “morbid and malicious rumour circulating about president Morgan Tsvangirai”.
“Zimbabweans should rest assured that their leader is alive, well and in good health. Today, Sunday 22 January 2017, he will address a provincial council in Gwanda. Tomorrow, he will be in Binga, Matabeleland North, conversing with ordinary Zimbabweans about the future of our country.” he said.
Tsvangirai was diagnosed with cancer last year and there has been speculation about his health with questions being raised whether he is still fit to stand for elections next year.
Tsvangirai turns 65 in March and will be contesting Mugabe who will be 94.
There is also speculation that Mugabe might not make it to the elections with one pastor prophesying that he will die on 17 October this year.
The pastor was arrested and remanded to 3 February.
