‘MDC Congress Preps Going On Well’

When you intend to look into the graves of our icons, make sure you stand in the right cemetery

The MDC informs the public and members of the press that Congress processes are going on.

There are district Congresses which are ongoing in respect of which open competition is taking place and will continue to take place.

There is nothing strange about it, whenever there is more than one candidate teams handling the processes are conducting elections.

It is democracy.

The President was on record at his last press conference that no leader or member must be attacked whether in public or private for his or her intention to contest a position.

We promised Zimbabweans that the MDC Congress will be a festival of democracy and ideas – that will not change.

The MDC will not at any point criminalise open contest, neither will the party use unconfirmed reports to characterise the ongoing processes.

All senior leaders are expected to inspire tolerance not incite hate including in the media.

We have seen how a single reckless statement has resulted in deaths in South Africa.

Procedures have been laid out, which are meant to give everyone an equal opportunity to contest in positions of choice.

Once Provincial Congresses are complete and individuals are nominated they can campaign freely.

In the meantime, the leadership of the party will follow closely, receive reports of any anomalies in the processes, review them and provide the right redress.

The party will also investigate any reports of violence and punish zealots proportionate to the offence in line with party statutes.

There is nothing in this process which is beyond the institutional capacity to handle.

Nothing deserves disturbing the rest of our departed icons.

If anyone wants to look into the graves of our past leaders, they must make sure they are standing on the right cemetery.
