Masvingo records second consecutive coronavirus death

Masvingo, which until two days ago had no coronavirus death, today recorded its second consecutive death as Zimbabwe’s death toll rose to 151.

The number of active cases also rose slightly to 1 069 after the country recorded 102 new cases but had only 83 recoveries.

It now has 5 745 cases and 4 525 recoveries.

The bulk of today’s recoveries, 59, were from Bulawayo which now has 145 active cases but is still number two after Harare with 437.

Masvingo still has the lowest number of active cases at 14.

The number of active cases across the globe has remained steady at 6.5 million, though the number of cases has risen to 22.7 million. Deaths now exceed 794 000 while 15.4 million people have recovered.

India, which is in third place, could clock three million cases by tomorrow.  It, however, has only 54 900 deaths compared with Brazil’s 111 400 and the United States’ 176 900.
