Malema talk cancelled

A debate which was expected to feature Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters of South Africa, has been cancelled after delegates started pulling out following the xenophobic attacks targeting foreigners in South Africa. The debate series, dubbed Game Changer is being organised by Alpha Media Holdings publishers of Newsday, The Independent and The Standard which are owned by Trevor Ncube. According to the Mail and Guardian, also owned by Ncube, Malema’s debate, for which delegates were charged $100 per person, was postponed because of anger towards South Africa. Rita Chinyoka of AMH was quoted as saying: “Unfortunately, a large portion of the delegates who had registered for this event started pulling out following the xenophobic attacks on foreigners in South Africa. .. We would like to thank the Honourable Julius Malema for accepting our invitation and we hope that we will be able to host this event at a more appropriate time in the near future, as we strongly believe that he is a worthy Game Changer who is pushing the limits of our thinking about democracy and citizen activism in Africa.”
