Lumumba to stand trial next week

William Mutumanje, also known as Acie Lumumba, is to stand trial for undermining President Mugabe next Friday, 15 July.

Lumumba appeared in court yesterday and was remanded on bail of $400 after magistrate Vakayi Chikwekwe ruled that he was not a flight risk.

He handed himself over to the police on Monday after it had been alleged that he was on the run and had been abducted.

The State wanted him remanded in custody arguing that Lumumba might flee to the United States or might get lynched by the public for insulting the President.

He is accused insulting Mugabe when he launched his political party called Viva Zimbabwe last week.

Lumumba is also reported to have said that if anything happens to Mugabe, his children would be dealt with.
