Khupe makes first strike on Chamisa

Although signs were clear for sometime this was coming, Hwende and other party bigwigs were today shell-shocked by the recalls.

“We do not know that party (MDC-T), we participated in the 2018 elections under MDC Alliance. That is the party that sponsored us in Parliament and I am shocked that some people are now giving us a party that did not participate,” Hwende told journalists.

Biti, one of Chamisa’s two deputies, was equally shocked and scathing in equal measure of his criticism of the recalls, and pointed an accusatory finger at the government for what he believes is its behind the scene role in the unfolding fiasco facing his party.

“The illegal recall of our MDC Alliance MPs, Charlton Hwende, Prosper Mutseyami and chair Tabitha Khumalo from Parliament is reflective of how paranoid and desperate Emmerson Mnangagwa is in using the state to destroy our movement led by advocate Chamisa,” he said.

“We are MDC Alliance, nothing else.”

The MDC alliance in a statement said it stood fully behind its embers of Parliament.

“Today, the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, purported to recall Kuwadzana East MP Chalton Hwende, Chikanga-Dangamvura MP Prosper Mutseyami, Bulawayo East MP Thabitha Khumalo and Senator Lilian Timveos from Parliament under the unlawful instruction of Thokozani Khupe and Douglas Mwonzora,” the party said.

“We stand in full solidarity with our Members of Parliament following this unlawful, corrupt act by the Speaker.

“We remain a united, unshaken entity under the able leadership of President Nelson Chamisa who was elected constitutionally at the last MDC Alliance congress.

“We are aware that the purported recall is the latest of a series of desperate, predatory acts by Emmerson Mnangagwa to attempt to whitewash his legitimacy crisis following the flawed 2018 election. We reiterate that Mnangagwa is illegitimate.

“It is a matter of regret that the authoritarian regime of ED Mnangagwa continues to capture state institutions including Parliament and the Judiciary to pursue his agenda of trying to destroy the MDC Alliance. The People’s Project can’t be destroyed. The people will defend it.

“The regime has declared war on us. We gave dialogue a chance but Mnangagwa refused to take the olive branch. We will constitutionally exercise our right to safeguard our Movement and Nelson Chamisa. There’s no struggle without scars. We will not rest until Zimbabwe is free.”- New Ziana/Own
