Bikita West Member of Parliament Munyaradzi Kereke was today jailed for an effective 10 years after being convicted of raping his wife’s niece. He was acquitted of sexually molesting the other.
Harare magistrate Noel Mupeiwa sentenced Kereke, who pleaded not guilty claiming that he was out of the country at the time of the alleged offence and was being framed, to 14 years but suspended four.
Kereke was tried by way of private prosecution after prosecutor-general Johannes Tomana refused to prosecute.
Tomana was suspended last week for, among other things, the way he handled Kereke’s case.
