Kereke convicted of rape

Bikita West Member of Parliament Munyaradzi Kereke was today convicted of raping his wife’s niece but details about the sentence are still sketchy.

He pleaded not guilty claiming that the accusations were part of a conspiracy by his former boss Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon Gono to get him in trouble because he had exposed him for corruption..

Kereke was tried by way of private prosecution after prosecutor-general Johannes Tomana refused to prosecute.

Tomana was suspended last week for, among other things, the way he handled Kereke’s case.
